About Jewish Third Space
Jewish Third Space (J|TS) is a social enterprise and a global, retreat-based movement for spiritual renewal. We create gatherings where ancient Jewish teachings meet embodied contemporary practice — yoga, meditation, breathwork, ritual, sacred text study, music and the arts — so that Jewish wisdom can be felt in the body and not only studied on the page. A “third space” is neither synagogue nor home: it is an open, non-judgmental space between them, where people who feel unseen by existing institutions can belong exactly as they are.
This website is where that movement lives online. Visitors can learn what we do, explore our pilot retreat programme, read press coverage of the movement, register for upcoming gatherings, and reach our team directly through the contact form. Everyone who writes to us receives a personal response about the retreat network, and — if they ask for one — a phone call at a time that genuinely suits them.
Who is it for? Seekers looking for a spiritual home that welcomes doubt and curiosity; facilitators and teachers of yoga, meditation, art therapy and Jewish learning who want to bring their practice to a Jewish container; funders and philanthropists investing in Jewish innovation and mental wellbeing; and partner organisations building the future of Jewish life. You need no prior Jewish knowledge, no affiliation, and no particular level of observance to take part.
Who builds it? J|TS is led by Alycia Yaffa Sokolowski together with a faculty of teachers, therapists and facilitators drawn from Jewish learning, somatic practice and the healing arts, supported by seed funding from the Voice of the People Council. Our pilot retreat, Sacred Technologies, runs online and in person on Bowen Island near Vancouver, British Columbia, and is deliberately subsidised so that cost is never the reason someone stays away.
